impact report 2024
The Year in Joy
We can never say it enough — thank you.
Our community is tough. We work hard, play hard, and care hard. Together, we have weathered the impact of wildfires, soaring inflation, homelessness, and a global pandemic. Rental costs have grown at almost twice the speed of wages and homeownership for regular people has become an impossible dream.
Nevertheless, we're confident our community will overcome because at Bloom, we see the best of us each and every day.
We are a movement of folks who kick in money and time, recipes and gardening tips, helping hands and shoulders to lean on. Everyone who sets foot inside Bloom has someone else's best interest in mind. There is a special kind of camaraderie between people who are determined to lift each other up and build a better world.
In this Impact Report, we’re thrilled to share what brings out the best in us at Bloom. Thank you for making this joyful place possible and for continuing to move the mission forward.
In Gratitude,
The Hunger Coalition Team

Juan
This year, Juan volunteered at our Grocery Distribution and helped with building repairs. He said the spirit of giving back at Bloom is contagious which inspired him to keep volunteering.
Rossy
Rossy cooked Locro de Zapallo in one of our huge pots and was surprised we didn't have an equally huge spoon for stirring. A few weeks later, her friend brought a big, wooden spoon from Peru as a gift to Bloom.
clark
Clark was transplating strawberries at The Hope Garden. When asked what she wanted to do next — color or spread mulch — she chose to mulch.

taste test challenge
Bloom Truck brings free food, fun, and reading with The Community Library to kids from Carey to Ketchum each summer — this summer dishing up 4,456 lunches!
Liam joined our Taste Buds crew and bravely took part in a blind taste test. He sampled through a lineup of fresh and pickled produce from Bloom. Though he may have confused pickled radishes with pepperoni (honest mistake), he went 3 for 4, correctly identifying dill pickles, pears, and fresh radishes. You rock, Liam!

dance with your plants
In July, we partnered with LA-based dance company, BODYTRAFFIC to host a FREE Afro-Cuban movement workshop with our friends from The Senior Connection. Midway through the workshop, everyone raised Bloom radishes and carrots overhead and danced the day away in tribute to the harvest.
As instructor, Joan Rodriguez said, “It’s interesting that you talk about the Movement to End Hunger, because our slogan for the past few years has been, ‘Without movement, nothing changes’. It’s a step in the right direction.” Thank you to Joan, to BODYTRAFFIC, and to all of the dancers for moving us forward every step of the way.
THE TEAM
We are so grateful for all of you who help power the movement to end hunger. Whether you’ve stepped up and accessed food, given your time or money, shared your wisdom, split your food box with a neighbor, spoke up at a City Council meeting, joined a community event, turned out to vote, cooked up a meal in our kitchen — anything, anything that helps the greater good, thank you. The number of people in our circle is growing and we couldn’t be more grateful that you’re a part of it.

your gifts
at work
Thanks to your generosity, our organization stayed financially strong and able to meet the need. We continue to provide food for more than double the families than we did before the pandemic and we cannot continue to do so without the support from our community. Thank you!
